Musk forms new ‘America Party’

In a potentially significant development, Tesla founder Elon Musk Saturday announced the launch of a new political “America Party,” with the avowed purpose to give people back their freedom.

Musk’s move follows up on his opposition to the Big Beautiful Bill that President Donald Trump signed into law on Independence Day, when he vowed to end Democrat-Republican “uniparty”.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.

Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he wrote in a post on X platform.

Political experts see prospects of a new party challenging Democratic or Republican parties as slim since both the parties have elaborate systems at various levels and draw on longstanding financial sources.

Musk, the richest man in the world, might fight it easier to fund the new party but mounting a countrywide challenge to either party will be a momentous task.

However, the former Trump adviser sounded pragmatic in his announcement, saying the party will zero in on a few races for the Senate and the House in order to make a difference with even with its small presence.

“One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.

Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people,” he wrote below the announcement.

Earlier, the tech billionaire had threatened that “if this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day.”

“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE,” he said on M

Musk announced move after he sought people’s opinion on whether to form a new party.

“Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?”

The poll — which saw participation of more than 1.2 million votes — received approval from 65.4% of respondents.
