The United States called on Israel to aggressively investigate the murder of an American who was beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, calling it a “criminal and terrorist” act.

Florida-born Sayfollah Musallet was killed by Israeli settlers on Friday. The 20-year-old American of Palestinian descent was visiting his family in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee demanded accountability for the murder in a social media post.

“I have asked @Israel to aggressively investigate the murder of Saif Mussallet, an American citizen who was visiting family in Sinjil when he was beaten to death. There must be accountability for this criminal and terrorist act. Saif was just 20 yrs old,” Huckabee wrote on X.

Sayfollah, also known as Saif, was reportedly denied medical aid as settlers blocked paramedics from reaching him for around three hours and Israeli forces stood by.

Mohammed al-Shalabi, 23, was also killed in the incident.

Musallet’s father, Kamil Musallet sought justice against those involved in the murder of his son, asked the United States to “do something about it.”

“We demand justice against these settler terrorists,” he said.

The Israel Defense Forces said the matter is being looked into by Israeli authorities.

According to NBC News police said people from both sides had been detained at the scene on suspicion of involvement in acts of violence

and a joint investigation had been launched by the Israel Police and IDF Military Police.

In the United States, advocacy organization the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Saif’s murder was “not an isolated incident.”

“It was part of a long, unpunished pattern of violence against U.S. citizens by Israeli soldiers and settlers. Americans like journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, peace activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 80-year-old Omar Assad, 14-year-old Omar Mohammad Rabea, and human rights defender Rachel Corrie were also killed,” CAIR said.
