A camel whose leg was badly mutilated in an attack in Pakistan last year is back on her feet, thanks to a prosthetic leg and a year-long recovery and treatment.

The news of the camel losing her leg in a brutal manner in Sindh’s Sanghar district led to an outcry across Pakistan.

Her crime was to trespass into a landlord’s field for fodder in Sanghar, Sindh province.

The landlord had her front right leg chopped off as punishment.

Six people were arrested by police after the news shocked people and animal rights called for accountability of the suspected attackers.

Now known endearingly as Cammie, the camel was taken into an animal care center run by Comprehensive Disaster Response Services.

“Alhamdulillah. This moment is nothing short of a miracle,” said CDRS founder Todd Shea, an American who has been providing social welfare services to people since the 2005 earthquake that killed more than 90,000 Pakistanis.

“A year where we were told to give up, to move on, to stop delaying the inevitable. But we chose to stand by her. And today, she stood for us all,” Shea wrote in a media post.
