Pakistan says social media video about it threatening to nuke Israel is fake

Pakistan on Monday termed as “fabricated,” a video attributed to an Iranian official making claim that Pakistan has threatened to target Israel with nuclear weapons, and said Islamabad never made any such statement.

In a video that circulated the social media platforms on Sunday, Iranian National Security Council member Mohsen Rezaei is shown claiming that Pakistan told Iran that if Israel drops a nuclear bomb on Tehran, Pakistan will do the same to Israel.

The video was widely shared by several parts of the Indian media as Israeli-Iran conflict drew worldwide attention amid deadly strikes and counterstrikes.

Fact-checking platform iVerify Pakistan examined the video and concluded that the video in question was doctored, and that the Iranian official had made no such statement.

Islamabad’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar dismissed the alleged video circulating online as “fabricated.”

“This is irresponsible and false news,” Dar said, addressing Senate, the Upper House of Pakistan’s Parliament.

A British publication Daily Mail used the statement as news.

“From our side, there has been no such statement. It was fabricated,” Dar said, debunking the video.

Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif

 

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also dismissed the video as fake and termed it a conspiracy against Pakistan.

Asif underscored that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power, and its policies are defensive in nature.
In an earlier stated Asif expressed solidarity with Iran in the face of Israeli aggression.

Trump says Tehran willing to talk about de-escalation with Israel

The deputy prime minister also dismissed another video that showed the U.S. President Donald Trump as asking Pakistan to stay out of the Israel-Iran conflict.

Dar said, “We have checked that it was an AI-generated clip and it was fake.”

The foreign minister urged cautioned everyone against such fake news.

“This is not a children’s matter. This is a serious war like ours with India.”
