Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are following the example set by Princess Diana on their first tour of Pakistan, wearing Pakistani dress and drawing huge nationwide attention.

Kate wore a light green Pakistani national dress for women – with a long flowing Kameez – as the royal couple alighted from the plane at the start of the visit.

On Tuesday, William and Kate both wore the Pakistani dresses in the country’s green color at a reception held at Pakistan’s National Monument in Islamabad.

The prince wore a “Sherwani” – a formal coat over traditional Shalwar Kameez for men- while Kate had a dazzling star-spangled green, leaving many starstruck.

The golden monument and blue and red lights lent a charm to the evening ambiance.

The two are seen coming out of a rickshaw – a three-wheeled vehicle – colorfully decorated with paintings.

The image became an instant hit on Facebook and Twitter.

William and Kate visit Pakistan as Princess Diana’s affinity looms large

Pakistani rickshaw and truck moving art has won applause internationally, and foreign visitors to the country often cherish pictures taken with such decorated vehicles.

Dozens of mainstream TV channels and millions of social media users followed the royal couples’s engagements on the second day of their five-day trip.

Prime Minister Imran Khan hosted a reception for the royal guests, invoking memories of her hosting Princess Diana more than two decades ago.

Diana had a special liking for the country and her images holding a cancer patient child and visit to the historical Badshahi mosque in Lahore are among the memorable moments Pakistanis cherish from the visit.
